My name is Ali and I am the owner of Gabbeh and Oriental Carpet House Bern. I am a native Iranian and was active in Iran as a writer and poet.

Since 1996 I am known in the old town of Bern as Orient Carpet Expert.

In the past years I have built up an extensive network of relationships in Iran. These relationships allow me to import carpets directly from Iran, without intermediaries, to Switzerland.
My company is specialized in Persian knotted products.
On my annual trips to Iran, I have the opportunity to inspect the carpets for originality and quality before export. I examine every single carpet on the spot, at the producer, and select the best pieces for you.
Persia has produced many great poets in its thousands of years of cultural history. Hafes, Ferdowsi and how they are all called have also inspired Goethe.
Similar to how the poetry of these great poets touches our soul, the wonderful artworks of the mostly unknown carpet artists delight our soul through their pictorial poetry about our eyes.*

We buy the modern Gabbeh rugs from the nomads in the Shiraz area.

Gabbeh rugs are unique. Whenever possible, we are happy to fulfill your wishes regarding color and size.

You will also find in our assortment beautiful Kelims (flat weave).

Our services

Rugs bought from us we deliver to your home for free.

If you can't decide on a particular rug in the store yet, we will be happy to give you a selection to take home or we will bring them to your home. We will place the rugs on the desired place and you will comfortably choose the most suitable one. This service is free of charge and without obligation.

You have moved into a new apartment, bought new home furnishings, your oriental rug no longer fits or you no longer like it. Certain oriental carpets you can exchange with us even after years against another carpet or sell us back.

We will charge you a fair amount corresponding to the current value of the carpet to the purchase of a new carpet or we will pay you the current value.

If you wish, we can also supply you with underlays for your carpets so that they do not slip on smooth floors, parquet or ceramic tiles, or do not "wander" on stretched carpets of all kinds.

Carpet Cleaning

We have years of experience in cleaning carpets. Entrust us with your carpets, we will clean them gently and professionally using traditional methods.

Repair of carpets

Does your favorite rug have worn spots, moth damage or fringe that has become unsightly?
We will repair it for you. Costs are charged according to time and effort. We will be happy to give you a free estimate.

Repairing Gabbeh rugs

Modern Gabbeh rugs often do not have a symmetrical pattern.
Is your Gabbeh rug too big for some reason?
No problem, the Gabbeh and orientteppich house reduces it professionally according to your wishes. The edges will be resewn. From the cut off part we may even be able to make you a small runner or a shoe mat for the apartment entrance.

Valuations and Appraisals

You own a beautiful oriental carpet and would like to know its current value. We will make you an appraisal and issue you a certificate if you wish.
The cost of our work and any travel expenses we will gladly inform you on request.
